There is no simple answer for this question, and I get asked this on a daily basis, and there have been numerous blogs and articles about this subject. You can't just become a home stager, there is so much more to it than that. Marketing skills for one. I researched and worked on marketing before starting my own company for 6 months. That was at a time when there was very little, if any information about home staging. I can't advise you on what course to take. There are too many to keep up with and they are all different. You have to do your homework, and know exactly what you will be geeting, if that is the route you decide to take. There are too many facets to being a home stager to list. But, before you jump into this field think long and hard. To be a successful home stager these are some of the basic elements you need to have, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. You should possess the skills for running a business, have start-up capital, and knowledge of the real estate market, and demographics, not to mention a sense of color, design elements, vision, creativity, function and flow and on and on.
My best advice is to do the Homework and Research...Research...Research and Research some more!
I know that if I took art classes, I wouldn't be an artist.
I know that if I took voice lessons, I wouldn't be a professional singer.
I know that if I took drama classes, I wouldn't be a professional actress.
I know that if I took ballet classes, I wouldn't be a professional ballerina.
I know that if I took gymnastics, I wouldn't be in the Olympics.
I know that if I took basketball lessons, I wouldn't be a professional in the WNBA.
(Ok, I'm too old for the last 3 but you get the idea!)
The point here is that some things can be learned and some things come natural for people. Sure, you can take the classes or lessons, but does that really make you a professional? No. All of these are talents that some people are blessed to possess, they just "have it" and it shows in their profession, that's why they are professionals in their fields.
"How Can I Become A Home Stager?"
The Secret To Becoming A Home Stager Is...You Just Have It...It's a natural talent, not a learned one.
If you don't have it, and force it upon yourself, you will surely be disappointed.

Cindy, You have made a good point. When I decided to become a home stager and start my own business it was second nature to me. I was the Design Manager of a large floral company. I was in charge of the visual merchandising, buying merchandise, event planning and holiday production.
You have to have some kind of a natural talent for Home Staging and marketing a product even yourself.
Hi Cindy, very well said. People ask me all the time too, it has to be second nature. It's just something we have done all of our life.
Cindy ~ I agree wholeheartedly. Talented stagers are born, not made. You can learn the business side of staging, but the staging talent really is something that's difficult to "teach." However, tips and tricks of the trade are easily learned.
Great post Cindy! The proof positive is in the creative final product. Plenty of stagers around these days; yet, the talent is often missing. For those of us blessed with the natural ability, it is often a challenge to explain how creative minds create the CREATIVE ART! : ) Regards- Kathleen
