Having had a Basel Cell spot taken off my shin years ago, I learned you're never to young or too old to get checked out. I used to live by a lake, and got burned (with blisters) every single weekend, and if that wasn't enough, as teens, and in college, we laid out with baby oil and iodine. I haven't been checked in several years, for fear of the outcome. I knew my doctor would tell me the I was covered, and it was malignant, or my nose would have to be cut off. So, I didn't go, no news is good news right, well not with skin cancer, I had a friend from Florida that didn't know she had it on her back, it was melanoma, and was the size of a grapefruit, internally, and her doctor said she was months away from it spreading and being a death sentence.
So I made the dreaded appointment, and of course, canceled it, and re-scheduled it. So, I went in today, for a thorough check-up and thank God, No Cancer...just sunspots, but I can live with those. Thank you Lord!
Please get checked out, because, a spot that you may not think looks like cancer, usually is! (from my experience)
And the office visit was all of 20 minutes, well worth the peace of mind!

Fabulous point's here. I worked in Nuclear Medicine prior to retiring and selling RE... You were lucky...basel cell is the most benign...by the time it's melanoma... it grow's fast...most of the time by the time you see the MD it's already in some of the lymphatics...they can take out the sentinel node...however...most of the time...it's too far gone...and the treatment's are scarce...Heed her advice and get checked...I too...used to do the oil...I live in Florida...while it's summer...and I live here...I look like a ghost...or tourist who just arrived...My friend's ask me why I don't tan...read her post...it's just not worth it. Great post!
Thanks for nothing Cindy!!! I'm going to be worried about every speck I see on myself now.
How is this related to real estate anyway?
Cameron
Karen-I burn really easy, so I look like a tourist here in Houston as well.
Cameron-Great question. People in the Real Estate industry get skin cancer too, just ask the inspectors and appraisers (I know one that has it on his face) that are outside most of the time. No one is immune to any kind of cancer.
Who knows, maybe you should get those "specks" checked out, this post could be an early warning for you.
I sure do understand this. I have had about 3 possible ones removed. It's been awhile since I have gone back to be examined again. I plan to after summer is over. I hate it!
I had a wake-up call when I was 29 - had a basal cell on my face. Here's the kicker...I was never a big "baby oil in the sun" kinda gal...sure I burned a couple times on FL vacations, but I wasn't sun crazy. I've been good about sunscreen and hats since then.
