"Fil-A-Sac" sponsored by NAMI Gulf Coast has grown to successfully fill a little over 600 sacks for consumers (persons with mental illness). Each year, NAMI GC continues to meet the holiday needs of the mentally ill population and anticipates filling 700 sacks for the 2007 year.
With the holidays approaching NAMI GC is thinking of the consumers and their feelings such as loneliness and depression during this season. In November, NAMI GC gathers volunteers, families and sponsors from in and around Galveston, Brazoria Country and the Greater Bay Area who area inspired by consumer needs and the approaching holidays. These supporters collectively seek out hygiene items, nonperishable food, small jewelry, socks, make-up, wallets, playing cards, etc. Consumers decorate bags and everyone gathers for the festive event of filling the bags with much needed items. Throughout the holidays, bags are distributed to programs that serve people with mental illness.
