Curb Appeal Tip When Selling ...Not What You Think!

When selling your home, there are so many things to think of, one being curb appeal.  The reason this is so important is because, a potential buyer makes their decision whether to look at your home by it's outdoor appeal when driving by and on the mls photos.

Yes, the exterior is extremely important and must get the attention of the buyer, but something else that is just as important is to not have multiple cars in your driveway, street, and garage.  In some areas of the country people have 4 cars per house, two for the adults and two for their kids.  And at any given time if friends are there you could have 5-6 automobiles parked around your home.

You don't want your home to look like a used car lot. In this market first impressions are everything, and having too many cars parked around your house can not only be an eye soar, but a distraction as well.

So what do you do with all the cars?  Ask neighbors, family or friends if you can park your cars in their driveway while your home is on the market.  A hassle, yes, but well worth the added effort!

I see this as an issue where my niece lives in Anaheim California. I was amazed to drive by homes that didn't have just 4 or 5 cars, but some had nearly 10-12 cars as multiple families lived in a single family home.

On the flip side, one of my mortgage clients in Northwest Indiana rented a Ferrari 360 Spyder Convertible to display in their garage during open houses in a luxury estate home. It can work both ways.

Great suggestions Cindy. If we ever sell we will need to do this! We have 5 vehicle's plus two trailers. I think our insurance company should give us a discount for "fleet" rates! LOL

Cindy -- nothing looks worse in front of a house for sale than a bunch of cars -- one of my pet peeves!  Asking sellers to park down the street or in a neighbor's driveway is a good option.

James-A Ferrari is a hard one to beat, that would make a nice impression.

Donna-Don't feel bad, everyone has a vehicle here too, and usually a boat, golf cart, horse trailers, jet skis and motorcycles!

Maureen-Too many cars down a street tell a buyer alot about that neighborhood, a pet peeve of mine too.

This is the first time I've seen this issue addressed. You're so right... and that house looks like a Denny's!

I had a client once with a bulldozer, camping trailer and boat in the driveway.  They just couldn't understand why they had to remove them.
