More houses are popping up for sale, and will continue with summer season upon us. Now more than ever a home seller has to take the steps to make sure his house sells.
These are the top ten common mistakes home seller make when selling their homes according to a recent Smart Money article. The housing market continues to decline, and the sales of existing homes, fell 3% in March of 09, according to the National Association of Realtors. The latest S&P Price Index showed that prices in 20 major cities dropped 18.6% year over year in Feburary.
1. Failing to vet your real estate agent.
2. Setting the price too high.
3. Waiting for a market rebound.
4. Skimping on listing photos.
5. False advertising.
6. Failing to incentivize buyers. (Decorator allowance ie: Having a home professionally staged, so it will appeal to buyers)
7. Waiting to fix up the place.
8. Taking offense at lowball offers.
9. Failing to make sure the buyer can afford the house.
10. Being inaccessible.

Thanks Cindy for the link to the Smart Money Article.
Smart Money is a good resource. And what a nice list...but what's failure to vet...??? omg, it's failure to get a real estate agent, a riddle.
Great article - thanks for sharing. It's a great one for sellers!
Good info. Thanks for sharing. I should pass this along to everyone who hesitates at listening to their realtor when the mention of a price adjustment comes up. It's a reality of our current market...and waiting for the market to rebound is a crap shoot! It may be years.
Cathy-Thanks, it's a good one to share with clients.
