Front Door Color Affects Sale Of A Home

Double glazed arch window and white UPVC door in a stately homeYes to these colors when selling!

                                                               reddoor.jpg

A Feburay 2009 survey from Co-Operative Bank Mortgages showed that that 29% of home buyers preferred a white front door.  However, a close second of 20% of buyers preferred red.  The third most popular at 16% was blue, with green coming in at #4 and brown at #5.

Pink was the least favorite, and could possibly keep a buyer from even making an offer.  Other offender colors were orange, purple, grey and yellow.

Note that if you live in a climate that is harsh, you may have to paint your door every couple of years or so to keep it looking fresh.

No to these colors when selling!

White is most popular, interesting!  I never recommend this color of paint for front doors.  Black, Red or very dark green are the popular colors I recommend.  Nice photos Cindy!

Oh my, on a colonial a black is wonderful.  Good post, like the photo illustrations and the topic.

Hi Cindy, I just told one of my clients that the current front door color is making the beautiful stone front recede instead of making it a feature. You barely notice the stone front!

I'm very surprised not to see black on that list ... black is such a classic look, depending on the home's style and materials.  I usually recommend black or deep, true red.

White?  I'm surprised by that.  I would have thought that red is #1 right now and black second.  Interesting, very interesting.  Thanks for sharing this information, that could influence some choices.

I am surprised as well.  I think black is classic choice on certain style homes; and yellow is an inviting, cheerful colour on my list and works in certain situations.

I think as others have said, the door colour depends on style of home, setting and material used for home.

I have a wood stained door, where does that fall on the list?  I am also surprised at the absence of black.  I would not have guessed white.

Late to this party, but also found it very interesting...the offenders were not surprising, but several in the top 5 were, as well as what was missing!

Cathy-I know, me either...strange!

Terrylynn-Black is pretty, don't see too many of thosea around here.

Cynthia-If they paint it, be sure and post photos.

Maureen-I guess it depends on the area, we mostly have stained front doors here.

Lori-The only white door you ever see is a storm door, we don't use those here.  I was suprised too.

Sharon-I think everyone is in agreement the darker colors look better.

Sharon-Same here, even though I stain it as dark as I can, covenents prevent it from being changed.

Cheryl-Yes, black should have been on the list not white.
