Staging 7 New Homes For Only 9 Days?

After reading Kimberly Westers post "Staging may be a new industry..."  I had also received a similar call asking if I'd be interested in staging 7 new homes.  Sounds great right!  They wanted them done for free!  They had spent $100,000 in advertising and expected 2,000 people to come through.  They would use your name, logo in print media where possible and the event brochure.  A new master planned community with 7 builders, 500 homes, priced at 700k-800k, but they only want it staged for 9 days.  I also know they are calling other stagers and designers to try and get this done.  I think they realize that not too many people would do this for free...if any.   After their pitch, they did want me to give them an estimate...sight unseen of course! 

Has anyone, either real estate agents or stagers had any positive experiences with this sort of "exposure" from this type of marketing?  (I would not do for free and it's 120 miles round trip).

La Madeleine's Country Potato Soup Recipe

This recipe is supposed to be the authentic one use by La Madeleine's for their Potato Soup.

1/8 C. Butter, unsalted

2 leeks, thinly sliced (white part only)

1 large yellow onions, sliced

1 1/2 quarts chicken stock

4 large peeled potatoes, sliced evenly in 1/4 inch slices

salt to tast

2 springs fresh thyme

1/2 C. cheddar cheese, grated

1/2 C. bacon, cooked and diced

 

1. Ina a large saucepan, add butter, leeks and onions, and cook.

2. (Don not brown vegetables.) Add chicken stock, potatoes, salt and fresh thyme.

3. Cook for 40 minutes over medium heat, stirring frequently to avoid scorching.

4. Add cream, bring to a boil and serve hot.

5. Garnish with Cheddar cheese and diced bacon.

Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino Recipe

A copycat recipe for Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino

Ingredients

4T. Chocolate Syrup

4T. Chocolate Chips

4C. Double-Strength freshly brewed dark roast coffee

Copped or crushed ice

Whipped cream (optional)

Chocolate syrup (for drizzle,optional)

Instructions

Fill blender half full with chopped or crushed ice.  Add all ingredients (except whipped cream) and blend until thick and still icy.  Pour 4 tall glasses, top with whipping cram and drizzle chocolate over the whipped cream.

Ronald McDonald House Of Houston Needs You!

I have several friends who work for Southwest Airlines, all of which are volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House in Houston.  They all really love volunteering there when they can, and say it is such a rewarding experience, and have been helping out for years. 

The Ronald McDonald House provides a home and friendly atmosphere for families with children being treated at the Texas Medical Center for Cancer or other serious illnesses.

Volunteer Application

Shift Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older.  Volunteer shifts are available seven days a week.  Volunteers are asked to work a total of six hours a month.  Volunteer shifts are scheduled in three hour time blocks. 

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.               3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.               6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Clear Creek Cleanup 2008-League City, TX

Cleanup Time for Clear Creek in League City-Volunteers are need.

These weekend cleanups are every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 am to 2 pm at the Walter Hall Park Boat Ramp. The 2008 Annual Clean Up has begun on Clear Creek.  Each weekend volunteers will be collecting trash for the cluminating event on February 23, 2008.

Everyone is welcome to come out and help  in one of the most successfull river cleanups in the country.

Starbucks Caramel Iced & Regular Macchiato Recipe

These are approximations for the real thing.

Caramel Macchiato

The average coffee mug is probably equivalent to a Tall(12 oz./355ml).  This is not precise Starbucks standards, but it's one shot of espresso, about .75 oz. syrup (.25 oz. per 4 oz. liquid capacity)

Best if Starbucks Brand of Coffee Beans Are Used And Ground As Needed

Ingredients:

  • Milk
  • Espresso
  • Vanilla Syrup
  • Your favorite caramel sauce

In a regular-sized coffee mug, add vanilla syrup and steamed milk.  Top with milk foam and add freshly brewed espresso through the foam.  Drizzle with caramel sauce.

Iced Caramel Macchiato

Same ingredients, plus some small ice cubes and (optional) whipped cream.

In a pint glass or iced tea glass (assuming 16 oz.), add vanilla syrup and fill about 3/5 of the way with cold milk.  Add ice almost to the top and pour espresso (2 shots would be typical) over the top.  If you've done it right, the espresso will mix in only about halfway down without stirring.  If adding whipped cream, add it here.  Drizzle the top with caramel and enjoy.

Who Will Win The HGTV 2.2 Million Dollar Dream Home In The Keys?

Well, me of course, this is my year, I'm way overdue, all the years of entering, this is my year. Last years giveaway was so disappointing knowing that the winners son knew he was in the "top 3" weeks before the announcement.  I still expected Joan Steffend to ring my doorbell at the last minute, but when I didn't see any mysterious activity going on in the neighborhood, and saw her in a cold environment, I knew it was over for me, once again.  The sad part is no one ever keeps the homes once they've won them. 

HGTV, I promise to love, honor and cherish this home if I am chosen till death do us part.

I actually got a chance to go to the 2007 HGTV Dream home in Winter Park, CO., before they gave it away, looked inside the windows, took photos (I'll have to post those later), met the neighbor, assuring him I'd be his next door neighbor soon, even went to the club house, and had Carte Blanche of the place, there just happened to be a electronics worker there, and he let us tour the whole club house.  The snow drifts were at least 3-4 ', and huge 8' icicles hung from the roof of the house.  They don't call this  the "Icebox Capitol" of the world for nothing.  I believe they get 400" of snowfall a year. 

Would I have taken it, of course, and very graciously so, but I'm ready to be just as gracious when Joan rings my doorbell in March telling me I'm the 2008 Dream Home Winner in the Keys! 

Hmm...Home Staging in the Keys...I like the sound of that!
