Stagers, in the Greater Houston area and beyond, come join the 1st ever Stage It Forward Round Table Meetings designed for stagers, by stagers to benefit home stagers.  This will be an open forum for discussion about the home staging industry in Houston and how we can educate the consumer, understand the market, and many more topics. 

All home stagers are welcome.   It doesn't matter how long you've been staging, or what designation you hold or don't hold....we will have stagers of all backgrounds!  New to staging?  That's ok to, this is a great group, and what I've found is that most stagers are so passionate about what they do, when you get a few together, it's always a great time!

Yes, the unenviable task of being put in between a husband and wife that don't agree on anything.  She wants granite, he doesn't want to spend the money.  She wants new carpet, he thinks it looks fine.  She wants to paint the purple bathroom a taupe, he likes the  color purple.  She wants new furniture, he thinks it 's finally broken in and comfortable.  Does this sound familiar?  As home stagers, and Real Estate Agents, we are often put on the spot in between spouses, as well, mediators if you will.  We try to find a balance and happy median for both.  They both have their reasons and a purpose for what they want, they just don't see eye to eye.  Be ready to have solutions that will be agreeable for both husband and wife. If you explain the rationale of the "why" both parties will hopefully see it in a different light and come to an agreeable decision.  Sometimes, it just takes a third parties point of view and you have to agree to disagree.

I've had my java and I'm off to do an "Accessory Only" staging on this 4,000sf house.  That's a lot of house, with huge walls, and ceilings.  The entire house will be done.  That's also a lot of accessories!  I'm anxious to see the end result.  It's vacant right now, but not for long.  I will post the before's and after's when I'm done. I have a feeling tomorrow, my muscles will be crying.   My aerobic activity for the week!

There is no simple answer for this question, and I get asked this on a daily basis, and there have been numerous blogs and articles about this subject.  You can't just become a home stager, there is so much more to it than that.  Marketing skills for one. I researched and worked on marketing before starting my own company for 6 months.  That was at a time when there was very little, if any information about home staging.  I can't advise you on what course to take.  There are too many to keep up with and they are all different.  You have to do your homework, and know exactly what you will be geeting,  if that is the route you decide to take.  There are too many facets to being a home stager to list.  But, before you jump into this field think long and hard.  To be a successful home stager these are some of the basic elements you need to have, but this is just the tip of the iceberg.  You should possess the skills for running a business, have start-up capital, and knowledge of the real estate market, and demographics, not to mention a sense of color, design elements, vision, creativity,function and flow and on and on. 

My best advice is to do the Homework and Research...Research...Research and Research some more! 

I know that if I took art classes, I wouldn't be an artist.

I know that if I took voice lessons, I wouldn't be a professional singer.

I know that if I took drama classes, I wouldn't be a professional actress.

I know that if I took ballet classes, I wouldn't be a professional ballerina.

I know that if I took gymnastics, I wouldn't be in the Olympics.

I know that if I took basketball lessons, I wouldn't be a professional in the WNBA.

(Ok, I'm too old for the last 3 but you get the idea!)

The point here is that some things can be learned and some things come natural for people.  Sure, you can take the classes or lessons, but does that really make you a professional?  No.  All of these are talents that some people are blessed to possess, they just "have it" and it shows in their profession, that's why they are professionals in their fields.

The Secret To Becoming A Home Stager Is...You Just Have It...It's a natural talent, not a learned one.

If you don't have it, and force it upon yourself, you will surely be disappointed.

I did a Home Staging Consultation for a couple in a suburb of Houston recently, that had moved on to another state and left their home vacant in hopes of selling it.  After sitting on the market for months the owners decided to have it staged.  Hurricane Ike hit, so we were in limbo for a couple of weeks.  The homeowner was still ready to stage her home until she talked to her Real Estate Agent.  The REA not only talked them out of staging, but said they would need to reduce the price by 15K to be competitive with the 30 foreclosures in the neighborhood.  This of course terrified the owners, and they have decided to try and rent with no guarantees, and the possibility of having their home destroyed.  The house was very small, and the cost of staging was minimal.  Yes, foreclosures are rampant, but if your home is in pristine condition, added with professional staging, your house has to standout among the horrible conditions of the unkept foreclosed houses.  Home Staging for a starter home would not be anywhere near 15K, not even a drop in the bucket.  Try home staging first before dropping your price by 15K.

The NASA Means Business is for University students to prepare branding strategies and promotional videos to articulate the many anticipated contributions that the space program means to space exploration and everyday life on Earth.

The 16th Century comes alive at the Texas Renaissance Festival going on now through November 30th.  Costumed actors will be portraying the life and times of the Renaissance Era.  You can make a day of it or a weekend of it. The festival will be on Saturdays, and Sundays and Thanksgiving Day.

The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake will be hosting a monthly interactive cooking demonstration to beginning October 21 at 6:30p.m. at The Arts Alliance Center located at 2000 Nasa Parkway in Nassau Bay.  The monthly demonstration is presented by Lexus of Clear Lake and will feature a master chef from a well-known Houston area restaurant. Chef Beau Leacroy, Executive chef of Bailey's American Grille in Seabrook will kick-off the six month series of cooking classes.  Leacroy style of cooking is a mix of Southern and Lain, he's been experimenting with Asian flavors.

The next chef will be Randy Evans from Brennan's on November 18.

The Houston Mermorial Hermann Hospital will be hosting a breast cancer symposium to explain mamography and breast cancer.  All ages of women and their families are encouraged to attend.  There will be an interactive question and answer session with a panel of speakers and patient testimonials.  Have your questions ready for their expert panel.  Snacks and punch will be served with lots of giveaways.

Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital is the only area hospital currently offering the new technology of MammoSite.  Typically certain forms of breast cancer takes a six-week course of radiation after surgery, now it takes five days. MammoSite radiation goes directly to the site of the tumor through a small tube called a catheter that is inserted during surgery.  Surrounding tissue is spared from radiation's damaging effects.  On the fifth treatment day, the catheter is removed. Women can return to their normal activity.

To be eligible a tumor must be no more than about 2 centimeters in size. Trials are taking place to see if the MammoSite is effective on other types of breast cancer.

The Real Estate Staging Association (RESA) the Trade Association for Professional Home Stagers has announced that November is Home Staging Awareness Month. 

RESA along with IRIS and ASHSR is proud to announce that we are National Co-Sponsors of Home Staging Awareness Month.

 During Home Staging Awareness Month the popular "Stage it Forward" (SIF) Round Table Meetings will be taking place all over North America. SIF originated from a powerful internet blogging community that is hosted by Real Estate Blogging website called Active Rain. (www.ActiveRain.com) 

 The meetings will focus on the Staging Industry, creating standards, ethics and the wants and needs of the Professional Stager. You ALL can have a voice in creating standards and choosing the direction you want your industry to take.

Keeping with the tradition of SIF and RESA.   ALL Stagers are welcome to attend the meeting. You do not have to be a member of RESA to attend the meeting nor do you have to hold any particular designation.  

Wings over Houston will be held at Ellington Field October 25-26th in Houston.  The United States Air Force will do thoses death defying acts as spectators watch in awe with their amazing formations and head-on passes.  The Thunderbirds will be the featured act with breathtaking performances. There will also be aerobatics displays.

October 18th will be the final day for the arts festival downtown.  The streets will be closed off and the blocks will be filled with art, music and dance.  The festival is one of the best in the country.  It promises to be a beautiful day for walking around the streets of downtown.  There will be 300 artist, selling their handcrafted goods.  There will be an interactive area for the kids.  The festival will be open from 10:00am to 6:00pm.  Amission is $10 for adults and is free for children 12 and under.

These are the rooms that I did for the ABC Special on Local Houston KTRK Channel 13 for Redesigning Your Room. The owners were not selling, but wanted a new look.  There were too many elements going on in both rooms.  Too many colors, patterns, flowers, pottery collection, no clear focal point, and a  non-functional furniture arrangement.  After shopping her home I was able to de-clutter, group things together, pull things into areas that made it cohesive.  The room now has a focal point, and is a calmer space.
