Fall Back Festival - La Porte, TX

September 21,22, & 23 the City of La Porte announces the second annual Fall Back Festival, a celebration of the rich history of the city and its people.  The festivities take place on Main Street on Friday, and Saturday.  The Festival showcases live entertainment, great food, beverage, Motorcycle run, arts and crafts, boat expo, barbeque cook off, progressive wine tasting, carriage rides, giant inflatable entertainment equipment, a kite fun fly and kids zone.  For more information cal 832-771-7661 or email AKRuch@aol.com.

Greyhound Adoption

Retired Racing Greyhounds make great pets.  They are quiet and loving companions that live to be 12-14 years old.  At retirement they can be anywhere from 2-5 years old leaving many years to be a family member.  Breed characteristics include a sweet and gentle disposition, little to no barking and low maintenance due to their short coat and relatively low shedding.  Volunteers for FastK9's Greyhound Adoption Inc. will be at the League City Petco, 2895 Gulf Freeway South at FM 646 every 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of the month from 1-5 p.m.

Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta

Beginning Saturday and Sunday, October 20-22 at 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Pasadena Lake, Clear Lake Park, East of NASA on NASA Road 1, the Texas Dragon Boat Association (TDBA) will present its 4th Annual Gulf Coast International Dragon Boat Regatta.

Dragon Boat teams from across North America will compete for the International Cup, Gulf Coast Cup, Texas Cup, Lone Star Cup, Bay Area Cup, Energy Cup, Youth Cup, Breast Caner Survivor Cup, and other top awards.  Saturday's schedule features corporate and community teams.  Youth and breast cancer survivor teams will compete on Sunday.  Spectators and participants of this free public event celebrate Asian culture as they enjoy diverse food, music and cultural performances.

Clear Lake TX Ski Club

The Clear Lake Area Ski CLub (CLASC), a non-profit, member-operated ski slub that promotes the sports of snow skiing & snowboarding among Houstonians by offering trips to ski areas throughout the world.

League City American Legion Wins State Baseball

Did you know that your League City American Legion Baseball Team just won the State of Texas Championship?  And that's just one reason to cheer our veterans!

American Legion Baseball Post 554 won the Department of Texas State Tournament in a 23-4 victory over Lexington earlier this month.  Currently, the team is playing the Region Tournament in Paducah, Kentucky.  If victorious, they will earn a spot in the World Series in Oklahoma later this month.

Clear Creek Country Theater To Present 'Hello Dolly'

"Hello Dolly" to run September 7 thru 30 - a comedy about love and relationships, based on the play "The Matchmaker by Thorton Wilder.

Matchmaker, Dolly Levi is tired of being a widow.  As she plots to snare the wealthy Horace Vandergelder of Yonders, she meddles in the lives of everyone along the way.  Slapstick-comedy and beautiful melodies intertwine in one of musical theater's most lovable shows, and everybody gets a happily-ever-after.

University of Houston Clear Lake Announces Fall Art Schedule

Uof H Clear Lake's Art Gallery and art exhibition space highlights the creative works of local Texas artist and student during the upcoming fall semester.

During the Bay area Houston Community College Faculty Exhibition I, Sept 4-Oct. 10, faculty from Galveston College, College of the Mainland, Alvin Community College and Brazosport College will display work in the university's Art Gallery.  In the Art exhibition area, master printer and artist printmaker Katherine Brimberry offers art fans a look at work from several of her series including " Maladies of a Fallen World" and " Notebook Maladies," Sept. 1- Dec. 10.  Brimberry's ongoing "Self Portrait" eries is also included.

Houston Hobby Opens Air Terminal Museum

Houston Hobby Airport has opened a museum to preserve an important piece of Houston's history for future generations.  The museum is the only educational institution in Houston dedicated to promoting our city's significant civil aviation history.  The airport is currently under renovations, and is dedicated to keep the rich and varied history of aviation in the region.  It is a rare and classic art deco airport architecture from the golden age of flight.  The museum is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday - Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sun.

I went to Winter Park last year in between Christmas and New Year's to ski, and little did I know it was the most expensive week to go.  But I had already commited to go so, we got an awesome 3/3/2 that was fully loaded with amenities including 2 plasmas and had a great time.  The rates went down almost 1/2 the price when we left.  So this year, if you are planning on going, if you book now your lift tickets are cheaper and you can get 4 night lodging & lift ticket packages starting at just $335 a person if you book before October 14.  Sure, Winter Park gets 300 of inches of snowfall each year, but it's only 67 miles away from Denver.  And has an enormous amount of ski runs with Mary Jane sitting next to it.  Also, new this year is North America's highest six passenger chairlift, the Panoramic Express, which offers access to the 12,060' summit of Parsenn bowl.  Plus, 100 acres of newly enhanced intermediate terrain and two new trails.  If your into night life this is probably not the spot for you.  But if you are into relaxing and unwinding, this is the place to be.

South Shore Harbour Wine Festival

The South Shore Harbour Resort and Marina, on the south side of Clear Lake in League City will be hosting a wine and food lovers festival.  It will be presented by the League City Chamber of Commerce and EM Marketing Co. Saturday, Oct. 20, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Pavilions will be set up and you will be able to sample wine from around the world.  While sipping on some of these world famous wines ongoing entertainment will be playing for your entertainment. 

There will be seven pavilions all with a different theme.  A grape stomp competition begins at 1 p.m., there will also be a 5k-10k Run at noon with live entertainment beginning at 12:30.  Cooking demonstrations by local well know chefs will be at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.

Admission to the South Shore Dockside Food and Wine Festival is $20 a person and includes a souvenir wine-tasting glass and five tasting tickets.

Houston Bay Area Arts Festival

Houston's Bay Area's first Arts Festival is to be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20.  The event will take place at the Arts Alliance Center of Clear Lake, across from the Johnson Space Center.  Visitors will be able to purchase original creations from 20 area artists and 70 crafters including jewelry, paintings and ceramics.

Wings Over Houston Airshow

The Wings Over Houston Airshow will be held Oct. 6-7 from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Ellington Field.  This year's lineup is showcasing some historic aircraft, official fighter and bomber teams from the United States Air Force, Navy and Marines.  Vintage World War II planes will be in the "Warbird" area.  Aerobatics of the Canadian Air Force Snowbirds as well as the F-18F Super Hornet, F-15E Strike Eagle, AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter, USAF Heritage Flight, C-17 and United States Coast Guard.  Fans of all ages will be thrilled with jet fighters and bombers, as well as many aerobatic performances.  Admission to the air show will be $20 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-11 and free for children 5 and under.  Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 thought 11.  Reserved Prime-View seats are $40 and include reserved parking and a show program.  For more information go to link below.

$50 Million Project could bring 900 homes to Dickinson/Santa Fe Area

Another 900 rooftops are to be added to Dickinson and Santa Fe.  The area will be approximately 362 acres of homes ranging in price from $200,000 to $600,000 and should be ready for builders this time next year.  Complete build-out will be from 2018 to 2020.  The community will reside in the Santa Fe school district, but the actual development will be split between Santa Fe and Dickinson.  For more information see link below:
