Kemah Boardwalk Adds Roller Coaster-Revised with Picture of Coaster

The Kemah Boardwalk is about to become home to the only roller coaster on the Texas Gulf Coast, it will stand 96 feet taller than the former Texas Cyclone at Astroworld.  It will have a vertical drop of 92 feet, reaching speeds over 51 miles per hour.  The new coaster will hold 48 people with a capacity of 800 passengers per hour and will last at least two minutes. It will have more twists and turns and a bigger drop than any other roller coaster in the world, according to Tilman Fertitta, president and CEO of Landry's Restaurants Inc.

It's a traditional roller coaster thats 98% wood overlooking Galveston Bay.

640 Acre-Hidden Lakes to go in League City, TX

Perry Homes will start developing a 640-acre Hidden Lakes project across Hwy 96 from the Lakes of South Shore Harbour.  The son of Perry Builder, Bob Perry will take the advice of his dad and stay in the "middle market buyer" niche.  They are hoping to attract buyers that want to live in South Shore, as they are about out of lots in that development.  Home prices are expected to be from $225.00 to more than $1million.   The development will have a resort feel, with hike and bike trails, a large recreation center and lakes for residents.

League City 13th Annual Oak Tree Festival

13th Annual Oak Tree Festival

The League City Historic Area celebrates the Historical District's 13th Annual Oak Tree Festival, Saturday and Sunday, September 22rd & 23th, 2007. 

The Festival will be under the shady oak trees in League Park located on Main Street by the RR Tracks.  Attractions for both days include a common market, silent auction, lots of food and refreshments, children's entertainment and activities as well as local entertainment. 

The festival will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission to this fun filled family weekend is free.  The League City Historic Area, Destination League City, City of League City and Local Business and Service Organizations, sponsor the festival.

Texas State Mandolin Contest-July 21, 2007

Sponsored by the Bay Area Blue Grass Association, July 21, 2007, at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center, 300 West Walker, League City, Tx.

 Grand Prize is a $10,000 Gibson Sam Bush Mandolin and entry into the Nationals at Winfield.

2nd Prize is $300.

3rd Prize is $150.

Competition starts at 6pm.

On the same evening a fiddle and stage show by Daniel Carwile, 6 Time Grand Master National Fiddle Champion.

Workshop starts at 5:30pm.
