Yes, there really is a rock band made up of astronauts called Max Q, that play in this area at local events, parties, and restaurants. I have the utmost respect for these men and women who venture out, risk their lives, and really don't get the notoriety that they deserve. That's a whole other blog! Anyway, I've got to check these guys out some weekend. I hear they are really good. They are due to play in League City on July 4th and at the Bullanar Festival in Clear Lake on the last weekend in Aug. They will also be performing Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Kemah Boardwalk for the last "Rock the Dock" series of free concerts from 6:30pm until 10:15pm.

- This article is about a band of astronauts. See Max Q (disambiguation) for other meanings of the term "Max Q".
Max Q is a Houston-based rock band whose members are all NASA Astronauts. It was formed in early 1987 by Robert L. Gibson, George Nelson and Brewster Shaw. Gibson named the band after the engineering term for the maximum dynamic pressure from the atmosphere experienced by an ascending spacecraft, joking that like the Space Shuttle, the band "makes lots of noise but no music."
The band's line-up is constantly changing due to flight crew assignments, training, and the occasional retirement:
- Dan Burbank - guitar
- Tracy "TC" Caldwell - vocals
- Ken "Taco" Cockrell - keyboards
- Chris Ferguson - drums
- Drew Feustel - lead guitar
- Chris Hadfield - bass guitar
- Greg "Box" Johnson - keyboards
- Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger - vocals
- Stephen "Stevie Ray" Robinson - lead guitar
Former members include:
- Carl Walz - vocals
- Jim Wetherbee - drums
- Susan Helms - keyboards
- Hoot Gibson - guitar
- Pierre Thuot - bass
- Pinky Nelson - unknown
- Kevin Chilton - guitar
This Max Q is unrelated to the Australian band Max Q that was fronted by Michael Hutchence.
