Verandah Waterfront Condos on Beacon Island in League City, Texas

Verandah Debuts $300M Texas Waterfront Residential Community

The Verandah Cos. have revealed plans for Beacon Island, a gated island community on 35-acres in League City, Texas. The development, which will hold a mix of up to 800 residences, will cost over $300 million. Verandah jointly owns the property with Crow Holdings.

The development (pictured), which is adjacent to the South Shore Harbour Marina, will include: two 25-floor high-rise condominiums with 183 units each; two 14-story condominium towers with 126 units each; two six-story mid-rise condominiums with 76 units combined; a 39-unit low-rise building; 166 townhomes and 12 estate lots. Although the gated community will not have other commercial components, there will be a 600,000-square-foot community center and amenities such as an infinity-edge pool and a waterfront promenade.

Robert Stratton, founding principal of Verandah, told CPN that the project is designed to attract a mix of residents, especially those who commute to Houston every day, NASA employees and those working in nearby medical centers.

Construction for the bulkhead, promenade, utilities and streets broke ground in February and will finish by the end of the year. The first residences are expected to be available for sale or construction as early as this December. Stratton said that the company is selling off lots to other developers to build the project, and that they have been "overwhelmed by the interest," although specific developers have not been named yet.

Ziegler Cooper Architects will develop the architectural standards for the development, while TBG Partners will be the land planner and landscape architect.

With the down market tv execs. are cashing in on reality shows based on the housing market. According to this article HGTV is unveiling 2 new shows, debuting 10am Sun- "Secrets that Sell" (a mother & daughter team investigate homes to find out why they haven't sold.) and at 10:30am-"Get It Sold" (they assist frustrated homeowners to help get their home sold). HMM, sounds like a part of home staging to me!

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

A prayerful spirit has always been an important part of our national character, and it is a force that has guided the American people, given us strength, and sustained us in moments of joy and in times of challenge. On this National Day of Prayer, we acknowledge God's grace and ask for His continued guidance in the life of our Nation.

Americans of many faiths and traditions share a common belief that God hears the prayers of His children and shows grace to those who seek Him. Following the tragedy at Virginia Tech, in towns all across America, in houses of worship from every faith, Americans have joined together to pray for the lives that were lost and for their families, friends, and loved ones. We hold the victims in our hearts and pray for those who suffer and grieve. There is a power in these prayers, and we can find comfort in the grace and guidance of a loving God.

At this important time in our history, we also pray for the brave members of our Armed Forces and their families. We pray for their safety, for the recovery of the wounded, and for the peace we all seek.

The Congress, by Public Law 100 307, as amended, has called on our Nation to reaffirm the role of prayer in our society and to respect the freedom of religion by recognizing each year a "National Day of Prayer."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 3, 2007, as a National Day of Prayer. I ask the citizens of our Nation to give thanks, each according to his or her own faith, for the freedoms and blessings we have received and for God's continued guidance, comfort, and protection. I invite all Americans to join in observing this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
